Travel Friendly Workouts

A holiday can help you relax and unwind, but it can also throw your workout routine off. Also, the most dedicated exercisers find it challenging to maintain a fitness routine while they are away from home. Many people have good intentions. They could even bring their workout clothes. Unfortunately, their belongings never leave the suitcase until they return home.

Traveling away from home, though, does not have to mean that your healthy habits are disrupted or fully abandoned. If you're in a hot or cold world, you can always fit in some workout time while you're away from home. And if the weather causes you to stay in your hotel room due to poor weather, there are exercises you can do without any equipment.

Here are some suggestions to help you stay fit when travelling and stop bringing unnecessary baggage home.

Be honest with yourself- You won't be able to fit in your usual weekly workouts, which is fine. At least half of the daily routine should be completed.

Plan ahead of time- Find out what kind of fitness facilities your hotels have or whether there is a nearby park or jogging track before you leave town (weather permitting, of course).

Look at nearby gyms- If you are staying anywhere that does not have a workout room, check out the prices at the local fitness centers. They frequently sell day passes for a small fee.

Take a resistance band with you in your luggage- The band takes up very little room while providing a complete upper and lower body workout.

Don't skip out on any of the local delicacies- You can indulge in some delectable dishes without going overboard. Request that your favorite recipes be prepared with a few lower-fat ingredients.

Be inventive- Instead of doing the same routine as you do at home, come up with new and exciting ways to exercise. Biking, hiking, a pedal boat excursion, water skiing, beach volleyball, and other activities are available. Walking, jogging, and using exercise equipment aren't the only ways to get a good workout.

At the very least, practice your travel routine at home- A new exercise that you haven't done before will take more time and effort to prepare for. This kind of annoyance just makes it easier to miss the workout.

Get some snacks ready- If you'll be spending a lot of time in the car, bring some healthy snacks with you so you don't have to stop at every fast food and convenience store along the way.

Take a dip in the pool- If you plan on lounging poolside during your break, get in the pool every 20 minutes for 5-10 minutes of pool walking (try it in waist-deep or deeper water for a more demanding workout).

Make yourself at home- Remember to bring comfortable workout clothes that are appropriate for your destination's environment.

This is a short, easy circuit workout that can be performed anywhere and only requires a resistance band. Every exercise should be completed in at least one set of 8-12 reps.

  • Bicep Curl
  • Tricep Dip
  • Lat Pull Down
  • Front Raise
  • Push-Up
  • Squat
  • Abductor lifts
  • Adductor splits
  • Hamstring Kicks
